The history of our company dates back to 1970 when Rotel Holding AG developed a carbide coating in the thin layer segment with the aim of combining tribological properties and good corrosion protection. Following continuous improvements, the procedure was patented in 1977. The patent rights were acquired in 1988 by Marco Santini, who initially founded the company Duralloy AG Schweiz. Up until now, the company has focused exclusively on the implementation of its DURALLOY® coating procedure, which is used to create extremely hard, crack-free, precise, very thin and high-purity chromium layers.
In 1991, Marco Santini acquired Klaiber Metallveredelung, a metal finishing company based in Villingen-Schwenningen (Baden, Germany). The family-run company was a classic electroplating shop whose customers were mainly from the clock and watch industry and, later on, from the medial engineering sector. In 2002, the company was renamed Duralloy Süd GmbH. The DURALLOY® procedure from Switzerland was added to Klaiber’s electroplating processes.
In 2008, Aalberts N.V. acquired the companies from Villingen-Schwenningen and the Swiss city of Härkingen. Now part of the Aalberts process technologies group, both factories achieve 40% of the turnover in the automotive industry and 30% in the mechanical engineering sector. The remainder is spread over the clock and watch, electrical engineering, medical technology, sanitary technology, textile and print industries.
